Online course · 6 weeks · next cohort 12 January
Draw your own typeface.
Six weeks, one face, from the first pencil o to a variable font you can install. Move your pointer across the headline: that is a weight axis.
Try the axes.
Six weeks.
- 1
Shapes before letters
Drawing with a broad nib and a pencil. Why an o is not a circle, and how a counter carries weight.
- 2
The control characters
n, o, H, O. Four letters that decide the rest. Spacing them so a line reads evenly.
- 3
A lowercase in a week
Building the remaining 22 from the four, and the families they fall into.
- 4
Capitals and figures
Proportion, the two widths of a capital, and why the 1 is the hardest number.
- 5
Making it variable
Masters, axes and interpolation. Your face gets a weight axis and a width axis.
- 6
Proofing and release
Test documents, kerning the pairs that matter, and a font file you can install.
Twelve seats.
Live sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18:00 Lisbon time, recorded. Weekly review of your drawings, in writing and on a call.
